Let’s be honest, we all make mistakes. The Bible calls these mistakes sins. We are all sinners, and this sin makes it impossible for God to be near us. It separates us from Him.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23

We have clearly messed up and separated ourselves from God; we deserve punishment for our sins. BUT He loved us despite of all that we had done, and He sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, to bear the punishment that we deserve. Jesus came to earth, lived a sinless, perfect life. He was arrested, tortured, and crucified. For US.

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8

In order to have a relationship with God, we must get rid of our sin problem; however, none of us in our own strength can do this. Being a “better person” will not make you right with God. Only God can rescue us from our sins. He rescues us not because of anything that we have done, but because HE LOVES US!

“He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy.” – Titus 3:5

We cannot do anything to earn this salvation. The death of Jesus Christ is God’s gift to us.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” – Ephesians 2:8-9

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23

All that you must do is accept this gift of God’s love to you by confessing your sins and believing that Christ died and rose again providing salvation for you. And if you accept this gift, the Bible says that you will live for an eternity with God.

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” – Romans 10:9-10

“For God so love the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

What does this commitment involve?

Acknowledge that you are a sinner in need of a Savior—repent and turn away from sin

Believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead—Jesus paid the full penalty for your sins

Confess Jesus as your Lord and your God—surrender total control of your life to God

Receive Jesus as your Savior forever—accept that God’s promises are true in your life

If you are ready to make this commitment, express it to God in your heart and share it with others. Below is a prayer to help you express your commitment to God. Understand that the prayer itself does not save you; rather it is the position and attitude of your heart.

Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I do not deserve your grace and eternal life. But, I believe that You died and rose from the grave to bear the punishment of my sins. Please forgive me of my sins and begin to teach me what it means to live as Your child. Take control of my life. Thank you for this gift that you have given to me through your Son. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
